Ruby Gems Effects

RUBY Ruby is the name given to red gem quality corundum. These can be of varying shades of reds to pink. The best rubies are those, which have mystical deep red colour. In Sanskrit, Ruby is called by the name Manikya. In Urdu and Persian it is called Yakoot.

The finest rubies are found in Burma. Thailand, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Pakistan also produce bright rubies. India, USA, Australia and Norway also produce rubies, which are dark to opaque at times.

The chemical composition of ruby is Aluminium Oxide and the formula is Al203 The specific gravity is 4.00 and the refractive index is 1.76-1.77. The hardness of ruby is 9 with a crystal structure of Trigonal.

The identification of Ruby is a matter of experience. For an ordinary person access to gemmological investigations is not available. A genuine Ruby if kept on the eye will give a cool feeling continuously while a fake one will become warm after some time. A well cut Ruby will show the same colour at the edges, while an imitation piece will show yellowish edges. Moreover, a Ruby when placed in a milk pot will show the milk as red.

Ruby is the stone for Sun and is a precious stone. This gem should be worn in the ritualistic way, which has been used for ages and has been found to energise the stone. The ritual of energising Ruby should be done during the auspicious moments of Ravipushya. But this happens only once in a year. Otherwise, consecration of the gem can be done on Sunday or during the period when there is influence of Pushya constellation

Astrological Effects:

The ruby, also called Manek/Manickam, is said to be the stone that bestows name, fame and recognition, besides of course favours from state and government agencies. It confers on the individual the highest position, if sought. The native is never haunted by any fear of poison. The mental thinking becomes easy going and person starts enjoying sound sleep as well.

Medical Effects:

Ruby increases the heart's strength, body flexibility, vitality, tissue regeneration, mitosis, circulation, and protection from psychic attacks, immunity. This stone decreases inflammation, bleeding, infectious diseases, typhoid, bubonic plague, leukaemia, sickle cell anaemia, schizophrenia, heart attack, diabetes. It restores the balance of nerves, liver, spleen, heart, thymus, spinal column, adrenals, and cholesterol.

Semi Precious Substitute:

The semi precious substitute for Ruby is Red Garnet. Astrologically it gives the same effect as given by Ruby but the power of this gem is feeble in that sense. Ruby starts giving its astro effects within days but Garnet takes time to start giving effects.

Red Garnet is called Almandine in gemmology and its composition is Iron Aluminium Silicate with chemical formula as Fe,AI2(Si04)3. The specific gravity is 3.77; Refractive index 1.86-1.87 and a hardness of 7.5 having a crystal structure of Cubic. This is found in garnet Mica schist and has worldwide occurrence.

Red garnet increases vitality. It decreases anaemia, inflammation, depression, psychosomatic illness, haemorrhaging, inflammation, bleeding, gallstones, kidney stones, and anxiety. It helps in restoring balance of blood circulation, hormones, thyroid, white corpuscles, spinal fluid, pituitary gland, and spleen.
