Grah Pravesh – Housewarming Ceremony as per Vastu and Hindu Traditions

What is Grah Pravesh?

Grah Pravesh is a Hindu ritual performed when a family enters a new house for the first time. It is a spiritual ceremony that seeks the blessings of deities, removes any negative energies, and invites prosperity, peace, and harmony into the home. It is considered highly auspicious to conduct this ceremony before starting to live in the new house.

Types of Grah Pravesh

As per scriptures, there are three types of Grah Pravesh:
Apoorva Grah Pravesh – Entering a newly constructed home.
Sapoorva Grah Pravesh – Re-entering a home after being away due to travel or migration.
Dwandwah Grah Pravesh – Entering a renovated or rebuilt house after destruction due to natural causes or other reasons.

Importance of Grah Pravesh as per Vastu Shastra

According to Vastu Shastra, the energy of a house must be balanced before living in it. Grah Pravesh puja helps to:
Remove negative or stagnant energies.
Attract divine blessings for peace and wealth.
Align the space with the five elements (Pancha Mahabhuta).
Protect the family from doshas or unseen forces.

Walking into the house with the right foot first, preferably by the lady of the house.

Auspicious Muhurat for Grah Pravesh

Choosing the right muhurat (auspicious time) is essential for Grah Pravesh. Shubh months are:
Magh, Phalgun, Vaishakh, and Jyeshtha – as they are associated with prosperity.
