Houses in Horoscope in Indian Astrology

In Indian astrology, also known as Vedic Astrology or Jyotish Shastra, a horoscope is divided into 12 distinct sections known as houses. Each house represents a particular area of life, from personal identity to career, relationships, finances, and spirituality. These houses are determined based on the exact time, date, and place of birth, which sets the ascendant (Lagna) as the starting point.

The first house begins from the ascendant sign and the rest follow in an anti-clockwise order. Each house governs specific aspects of life, and the planets placed in these houses, along with their aspects, greatly influence the events and experiences of an individual’s life.



Role of Houses in Horoscope Analysis

Astrologers interpret houses in combination with planets and zodiac signs to make predictions. For example, Jupiter in the second house can indicate financial prosperity, while Saturn in the tenth house may bring hard work and slow career progress. The strength and afflictions of houses determine the quality of results one receives in related areas.
Additionally, the concept of bhavat bhavam explains how houses are interconnected. For example, the fifth house from the fifth (ninth house) also influences children and education.

Any particular sign of the Zodiac will reappear at the east horizon after approximately 24 hours. Ascendant is the sign of zodiac which is rising in the eastern horizon at the time of occurrence of an event. The Ascendant is also known as first house of the horoscope. Second house means the second counted from first and so on.
